Abstract
In the first part of Gastrointestinal Nursing's new psychosocial series, Andrea Toop explores the societal factors that contribute to the development of alcohol liver disease, and the actions gastrointestinal (GI) nurses can take to improve patient care and wellbeing. This article highlights and discusses the impact of social norms, socioeconomic factors and stigmatisation. It also provides a detailed case study and descriptions of non-clinical follow up care that can be actioned by GI nurses.
